Discovers an occurrence of Crowne's (1960) "Hero on the Beach" theme at lines 3724-31 of the Alliterative Morte Arthure. Noting that this typical scene is found throughout OE poetry (see, e.g. Fry 1966, 1967a), he concludes that the ME poet must have learned the traditional pattern from oral tradition.
