‘Vako pazi poljem konjenika, 157 So he spied the rider in the field C
Pa govori lički Mustajbeže: 158 Then Mustajbey of the Lika spoke:
“Moj Djuliću, Djula te rodila, 159 “O my Djulić, Djula bore you,
*hI* jev' ozdala jednog momka mlada 160 And here is a young man below C
Na doratu konju kosatome; 161 On a long-maned bay horse;
Dobro jaše pretila dorina -- 162 He rides that stout, red-brown horse well --
Dobar momak a dobar mu dorat. 163 A brave young man and his brave bay horse. C
Na prsima carevi nikšani: 164 On his chest the tsar's medals; C
More biti neko vod Stambola, 165 He must be someone from Istanbul,
vOd Stambola, stojna carigrada, 166 From Istanbul, the tsar's steadfast city,
Da je soja turskoga sultana. 167 Perhaps from the Turkish sultan's lineage.
Nije čudo momka pa ni konja, 168 I don't wonder at the young man or his horse,
udo mi je dva zelena vuka -- 169 But I do wonder at the two spirited wolves, C
A kako je pa ji' pripitomijo 170 And how he's tamed them C
vA da vidu pa za njim vukovi, 171 So that the wolves follow behind him
Pa da skaču sve na krilo momku.” 172 Then jump right into the young man's lap.”
vA zavika beže vod Lijeke: 173 Then the bey of the Lika began to shout: C
“Hajde, sine, Djuliću Nuvane! 174 “Hurry, my son, Djulić Nuhan, C
Hajde sidji na našu vavliju, 175 Hurry down to our courtyard
Otvori mu na vavliji vrata. 176 Open the courtyard gates for him!
vAko bude kuli mušterija, 177 If he be a petitioner to this tower, C
vAko pita bjega vu Grbave, 178 If he asks for the bey of Grbava, C
Neka jide na kulu bijelu.” 179 Let him enter the white tower.”
